How do we know the vaccine is safe for children and youth?

Clinical trials, which test the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, always use adults first.  More recently, clinical trials have been completed and reviewed with older children participating in the studies. Health Canada has reviewed these studies carefully and has approved the Pfizer (Comirnaty) and Moderna (Spikevax) vaccines for children 12 and up.

We anticipate other vaccines will also be approved, with studies underway to confirm the safety and effectiveness of their vaccines in children and youth.

If you are unsure whether you should have your youth vaccinated, make sure to talk to your family doctor or pediatrician.
